The London Underground – Going To Work (Parts 1, 2, 3)
As an artist, I try to create a series of work, and move on to the next collection. In October 2012, I painted a series of owls, in December 2012, I focused on poppies. One study that I keep returning to, is the London Underground. I am fascinated by it. The trains, the stations and the hustle and bustle.
If you have ever visited the London Underground at rush hour, you will be very aware of how alive the world is beneath the streets of London.
In January 2012, I painted ‘Going To Work’ (Part 1), in acrylics, on a 5″ x 7″ canvas board.

Followers of my paintings on our Etsy shop will be aware that my London Underground collection totals eight paintings, but, (to date), only three feature in my ‘Going To Work’ series.
In February 2013, I treated myself to some 11″ x 14″ canvas boards, and painted ‘Going To Work’ (Parts 2 and 3).

During 2012, I have to tried to develop a distinct style when I paint people. I am influenced by the busy scenes of LS Lowry, and the colourful characters of Fred Yates, and with my latest ‘Going To Work’ paintings, I have tried to incorporate the aforementioned artists styles, but still keeping true to my own developing style.
I am sure that art critics will make comparisons between my style, and the style of other artists. As artists, we all hope to be critiqued at some point, but I have developed my characters in this way, because, ultimately, I enjoy painting people like this, and they compliment my expressive style.
